Niesen Castle

The baroque manor house from 1704 burned down in 1951 and was rebuilt in a reduced size. The remains of the medieval castle were demolished in the 19th century.

The Medieval Castle

The exact construction date of the medieval castle is unknown. It was probably built in the 13th century by the Lords of Gemmingen. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1274.

Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly expanded and modified. In the 16th century, it was converted into a Renaissance castle. In the 17th century, the castle was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War.

The Baroque Manor House

In 1704, the old castle was demolished and a new baroque manor house was built on its foundations. The builder was Johann Dietrich von Gemmingen. The manor house was a magnificent building with a large garden and several outbuildings.

In the 19th century, the manor house was modernized and adapted to the taste of the time. In 1951, the manor house burned down completely due to a short circuit. Only the exterior walls remained.

Reconstruction and Present Use

After the fire, the manor house was rebuilt in a simplified form. The reconstruction was completed in 1953. Today, the manor house houses apartments and commercial premises.

The manor house is a listed building and is considered an important example of baroque architecture in the region.
