Niederweiden Castle
Niederweiden Castle is a Baroque castle in Engelhartstetten in the Marchfeld, Gänserndorf district (Lower Austria).
It was built in 1693/94 by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach for Ernst Rüdiger von Starhemberg under the name Hunting Lodge Engelhartstetten. The ruins of Grafenweiden Castle, first mentioned in 1337, are also located on the current park grounds. In 1725, the castle was acquired by Prince Eugene of Savoy. It received its current appearance under Maria Theresia around 1765 by the court architect Nikolaus Pacassi. The paintings in the ballroom are by Jean-Baptiste Pillement. From 1945 onwards, the castle increasingly fell into disrepair. Since 1980, it has been restored and used for exhibitions, events, and weddings.
Administration+
In 2002, the castle was privatized and, together with Schloss Hof, came under the administration of the "Marchfeldschlösser Revitalisierungs- und Betriebsgesellschaft m.b.H.", a subsidiary of the Schloss Schönbrunn Gesellschaft. Today, it serves, among other things, as a restaurant with baroque game cuisine. Fifteen stately rooms can be rented for events.
