Niederbach Castle (Oberpleis)

Originally, it was a water-surrounded complex. The manor house was rebuilt in 1742. On three sides, the former moat is still recognizable. At the cornice of the portal, the rollers for the drawbridge are still present.

The manor house is a two-story building with a mansard roof. The facade is adorned with a baroque portal and numerous decorative elements. Inside, historical stucco ceilings and wall paintings have been preserved.

The history of the manor house dates back to the Middle Ages. The first documented mention comes from the 13th century. Over the centuries, the building has undergone numerous alterations and extensions. It served as the residence for various noble families, including the Lords of Bünau, who gave the house its current name.

The Lords of Bünau

The Lords of Bünau were a prominent Saxon noble family who owned the manor house for several centuries. They played an important role in the regional history and left their mark on the building.

Later Owners and Usage

After the Lords of Bünau, the manor house changed hands several times. It was used for various purposes, including as a farm, a school, and a residential building. In the 20th century, it fell into disrepair, but was extensively renovated after the turn of the millennium.

Today, the manor house is used as a cultural and event center. It hosts concerts, exhibitions, and other events. Parts of the building are also available for private celebrations and conferences.
