Nieder-Rosbach Castle

In the town stands an old moated castle. The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century, when it was the seat of the Lords of Carben. From 1503 to 1816, it was owned by the Lords of Greiffenclau zu Vollrads. In 1710, the new manor house was built, which still stands today.

This building, renovated in 2011, is two-storied, built on a raised plinth. The plinth and the first floor are built in solid construction, the second floor in half-timbered construction. The moat around the building has been partially restored at the south-east corner and is crossed by a three-arched rubble stone bridge, which provides access to the main entrance.

The building, which is owned by the city of Rosbach, is equipped with modern elevator systems on the rear side. It is used as a public meeting place.

In front of the moated castle is a wide square, which is used as a festival ground. It also establishes the visual axis between the castle and the church. On this square is also the building of the former Nieder-Rosbach elementary school, which is now used as a village community center. Originally, this building was the economic courtyard of the moated castle.
