Neuroth Castle (Bilkheim)
Neuroth Manor is a castle building in the Westerwald district between the municipalities of Bilkheim and Salz, located northeast of Montabaur.
In 1657, Archbishop Karl Kaspar von der Leyen (1652–1676), Elector of Trier, enfeoffed the Barons of Walderdorff with Molsberg as a Trier electoral male fief. In 1760, the then Elector and Archbishop of Trier Johann Philipp von Walderdorff had the original castle demolished and built Molsberg Castle in its place. The building of Neuroth Castle was originally planned in a U-shape, but due to the death of the Elector in 1768, the castle remained a torso in an L-shape. The four-story part of the building in the form of a tower is striking. The Counts of Walderdorff, who still inhabit the estate today, have been cultivating many fields in Bilkheim and the surrounding area ever since.
The castle is privately owned and cannot be visited.
