Neuenstadt Castle

From 1618 to 1781, the Württemberg-Neuenstadt sideline of Württemberg resided in Neuenstadt Castle. The oldest part of the castle was built between 1559 and 1565 on the foundations of a castle of the Lords of Weinsberg, mentioned in 1392. The oldest part of the building is the three-story stone north wing, the so-called Dürnizbau, which features a Renaissance portal on its east side. The east wing, known as the Prinzessenbau, was also built as a three-story stone house in the second half of the 17th century. The castle, which once enclosed a square courtyard with all its wings, also includes the stables. The castle served as the residence of the Württemberg-Neustadt line until 1781 and was later used as a granary and barracks. In April 1945, the upper floor of the east wing was destroyed by aerial bombardment. Later, a wooden gallery was installed in its place.
