Münchingen Castle

Münchingen Castle is a four-winged complex in Korntal-Münchingen in the Ludwigsburg district.

On the castle grounds, there was already a castle first mentioned in 1304. In its place, the oldest building of the current complex, the Old Castle, was erected in 1588. Parts of the former castle, such as a keep or a residential tower, may have been incorporated into the construction. In 1619, the former granary and the stable building were completed, which today complete the courtyard. In 1733, the castle was sold by the Münchingen family to the Barons of Hartling. They soon after erected a new castle in the Baroque style on the ruins of the main building of the old castle. Due to neglect, both the Old Castle and the Baroque building were in need of renovation by the mid-20th century. In the 1970s and 1980s, a comprehensive renovation was carried out, during which, among other things, the no longer existing half-timbered floor of the Old Castle and the Rococo paintings on the Baroque building were restored. Today, the castle is privately owned.
