Moos Castle

Moos Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1207. In 1270, the Niederaltaich monastery bought the complex and had the castle demolished. In 1340, the Lords of Aichberg built a new castle. Until 1504, it was the residence of the Aichbergers and was almost completely destroyed by Palatinate troops. In 1520, Moos moated castle with four towers was rebuilt. Around 1620, the castle was almost completely destroyed by fire. It took until 1635 for the castle to be rebuilt. During this time, the castle was extended by another floor. In 1789, an English landscape garden was laid out. The castle's moat was only drained in the 20th century. Elector Maximilian had the city of Amberg handed over to him at Moos Castle after the Battle of White Mountain.
