Molsberg Castle
Molsberg Castle is a building in Molsberg in the Westerwald district.
Since 1030, Molsberg was the seat of the Lords of Molsberg, who built a castle on the Eichberg to secure the trade routes on the Hohe Straße. The current Baroque-style castle, which has been the ancestral home of the Counts of Walderdorff since 1657, was later built on the castle grounds.
Molsberg Castle is surrounded by an English-style landscape garden, dominated by an avenue of lime trees planted in the late 18th century. Among other events, the traditional Whitsun festival and various music events take place here annually. The former garden pavilion is now used as an art gallery by the Walderdorff Gallery.
In 2010, the restored Baroque castle chapel was awarded a federal prize for craftsmanship in monument preservation.
