Mitterhart Castle

The castle was built from 1515 to 1520 by the noble knight Hieronymus von Stauber († 1636), a financial expert of the Fugger family. He was then lord of the estates Mitterhart and Siegmundslust in Vomp. Ferdinand Fieger von Hirschberg († 1710) married Regina von Immhof, the last of the Stauber family, and had Mitterhart expanded into a palace-like residence around 1700. The last Fiegers died in 1803 in the convent in Hall in Tirol. In 1802, Johann Gwercher (†1852) bought Mitterhart Castle – hence the name "Gwercher Schlößl". Around 1853, Josef Ritter von Wörz from Matrei am Brenner bought the castle. On April 27, 1873, it was acquired by Josef Mayr, a carter, merchant, and farmer from Matrei am Brenner. Since 1938, the 'Gwercher Schlössl' has been run as a farm and guesthouse under its old name Schloss Mitterhart. The family estate is now managed with responsibility and tradition by the fifth generation.
