Mitterau Castle

Mitterau Castle is located in the municipality of Markersdorf an der Pielach near St. Pölten in Lower Austria.
The castle was built around 1600 and received its current form in 1754. Since 1710, the castle has been owned by the noble family Montecuccoli. Around 1740, Count Zeno Montecuccoli moved the family seat from Hohenegg Castle to the nearby Mitterau Castle.
The castle was severely damaged in World War II. The estate comprises 950 hectares of forest. Today it is managed by Albert and Felix Montecuccoli. The complex is a protected monument.
