Meckenheim Castle

The former Meckenheimer Castle is located at Junkergasse 1 in Lambsheim. A knight's seat has been documented at this location since around 1400. The building, erected around 1500, was destroyed by Philipp von Hessen, then rebuilt. The extensive cellars from this construction are still preserved. After that, it was damaged multiple times and rebuilt as a two-story plastered building after the Thirty Years' War. The late Baroque roof tower dates from the modernization of 1740. In 1823, the building was bequeathed to the municipality, which used it as a schoolhouse and administrative building until 1966. Currently, the ground floor is used as a kindergarten, and the cellar for festivities. The studio of the Lambsheim Tower Painter, whose position is newly filled annually, is set up in the castle tower.
