Loborgrad Castle
Loborgrad Castle, a historic structure with a turbulent past, stands in the Croatian village of Lobor. Originally built as a noble residence, it later became the scene of tragic events and now houses a social institution.
History+
Construction of Loborgrad Castle began in the 17th century under the Keglevich family. In the 18th century, the facade and the western wing of the building were completed. A chapel, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was established in the eastern part of the castle in the 19th century. The castle experienced a dark period during World War II when it was used by the Croatian Ustashe as a concentration camp. Primarily Serbian and Jewish women, including pregnant women, as well as children and babies, were imprisoned there. The camp's management and supervision were carried out by Croatian Volksdeutsche, with Karl Heger as commander and his brother Valdemar (Vlado) Heger as his deputy.
