Ljung Castle

The history of the Ljung estate dates back a long way. In 1642, Baron H. Hamilton acquired the estate. Later, in 1665, ownership passed to Agneta Horn, the widow of Baron Lars Jespersson Kruus. She bequeathed it to her daughter Anna Kruus, who was married to Baron Claes Fleming. His son, Count H. Fleming, sold the estate in 1730 to Hans von Fersen. His son, Axel von Fersen the Elder, inherited the property in 1747 and had the current castle built by Jean Eric Rehn in 1774. In the following decades, the castle changed hands several times within the von Fersen family, including Axel von Fersen the Younger and Fabian Reinhold von Fersen. In 1839, K. von Mecklenburg acquired the castle, whose widow Helena von Mecklenburg sold it in 1906 to Elon Larsson and Fredrik Rosin. Just two years later, in August 1908, ownership passed to A. Lindstrom and G. Andersson. In 2009, the castle was owned by the Nordenhed family.

Ljung Castle is located in the municipality of Linköping in the district of Östergötland, Sweden, at an elevation of approximately 75 meters above sea level.

Today, Ljung Castle is privately owned and therefore not publicly accessible. It is maintained by its owners and preserves its historical character.
