Lengefeld Castle

Lengefeld Water Castle is a former moated castle in the Lengefeld district of the district town of Korbach in the North Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. About three kilometers west of Korbach, on the edge of the Waldeck Uplands next to the church, lies the former moated castle.

In 1036, Lengefeld was first mentioned as "Lenkevelde" as an outwork of the Paderborn manor of Korbach.

Below the Hünenkeller Castle, dating from the Ottonian period, mid-9th century, a moated castle was built on the site of a present-day farmstead. This was first mentioned in a document in 1228, in connection with the Lords of Lengefeld. Whether they were the builders is not certain.

In 1272, it was in the possession of Albert von Mühlhausen as a fief of the Counts of Everstein. In 1318, Ulrich von Escheberg was enfeoffed with the castle. In the same year, ownership changed again; Henricus Teddesalt (also called Cedesaltz) received the castle as a fief. This family held the fief until 1632, the death of Philipp Zedesalt.

In the 14th century, Lengefeld became the property of the Waldeck Counts and in the 15th century belonged to the Amt Eisenberg. Count Wolrad IV von Waldeck-Eisenberg enfeoffed his chancellor Zacharias Vietor with the castle in 1632. In 1675, with the extinction of the Vietors in the male line, Johann Georg Rauchbar, who had married a daughter of Johannes Vietor, became the new owner. The feudal possession was allodified and sold in 1811 by Prince Friedrich Karl August von Waldeck zu Pyrmont. Thereafter, there were several changes of ownership. The farm is now in private hands. An internal inspection is not possible.
