Leinstetten Castle

Leinstetten Castle is a jewel in the Glatt Valley village. The main building bears the year 1609 on its beautifully curved Renaissance facade.

A checkered history: The residential castle still contains part of an old castle complex, which is partly recognizable by the thickness of its walls. Afterwards, along the flowing Heimbach stream, there was a battlement with loopholes, followed by a three-story palas. The two vaulted cellars of the old castle are still visible today.

The entire castle complex was surrounded by moats fed by the Heimbach stream. This moated castle was demolished in 1838. In the wall of the entrance door of the new, Renaissance-influenced castle, the coat of arms of Bubenhofen-von Freiberg is embedded, which once adorned the entrance of the old castle.

In 1783, Johann Nep. Wilhelm Clemens von Bubenhofen sold the entire lordship of Leinstetten to Philipp Jakob von Frank from Strasbourg (whose grave can be found on a slope opposite the castle, to the left of the road). Von Frank had the garden laid out in the French style and had stones brought from the Lichtenfels ruin for it. From these, portals and staircases were created in the style of Versailles. In the spacious castle grounds, mighty giant trees provide shade. The castle has been owned by the Barons von Podewills since 1847. The sculptress Bronislava von Podewils also lives and works in the castle.
