The construction of Ledaal Castle took place between 1799 and 1803, commissioned by the wealthy merchant Gabriel Schanche Kielland. He named the estate after the initials of his and his wife's name, Johanna Margaretha Bull. In 1936, the city of Stavanger acquired the castle and transformed it into a museum, making it accessible to the public.
