Lauingen Castle

Nursing home

The castle was built between 1474 and 1482 as the second residence of the Dukes of Neuburg under Duke Ludwig IX. From 1559-63, the castle served as the dower house for Countess Palatine Elisabeth. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the castle increasingly fell into disrepair. In 1868, the city of Lauingen bought the castle and rebuilt it from 1887-80. In 1889, a district hospital was established in the castle. In 1909, the Elisabeth Foundation was founded here. Today, the castle serves as a nursing home.
