Laacherhof Castle
Laach Castle is a stately villa in Monheim am Rhein in the Mettmann district and stands on the grounds of Laacher Hof, whose cultivation has been documented since the 13th century.
Laacher Hof was acquired in 1886 by Arthur Freiherr von Eppinghoven, who in turn sold it in 1909 to the mayor and pastor of Dinslaken. From him, the Hof went in 1910 to Clemens August Engels (1885–1941), who had Laach Castle built in 1911 (according to another source, 1910). From 1932 to 1938, the castle was owned by Vice-Chancellor Franz von Papen.
In 1940, the castle became the property of the Rhein-Wupper district, which initially used it as a recreation home for miners, and later as a retirement home. In the late 1990s, the company Beisel, a "specialist agency for innovative health communication," used the property. In the 2000s, the building was restored and from 2008 converted into a prestigious residential complex with condominiums.
The building is registered as a monument in the monument list of the city of Monheim.
Building Description+
The neoclassical building with its approximately 54,000 square meter grounds is located in a nature and water protection area and is touched by the Langenfeld circular hiking trail, the "Posthornweg". The castle is surrounded by forest and lies east of Lake Laach. Contrary to the usual construction methods of the time, it is oriented to the southwest. A historic park is located towards the lake.
Some of the castle's rooms are equipped with magnificent stucco ceilings.
