Around 1560, the castle was owned by the Lords of Plausigk. From 1661-1782, the castle was owned by the von Ploetz family. In 1822, ownership changed to merchant Ludwig Freiherr von Kalitsch. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

Since 2003, the castle has been used as a special needs school and museum.
