Krottorf Castle
Krottorf Castle is a lowland castle that was secured by the Bode river and by moats fed by it.
The castle was built by the Lords of Krottorf. It was first mentioned in 1270. Ownership passed to the Counts of Regenstein and in 1351 to the Diocese of Halberstadt. In 1363, the castle was destroyed and only rebuilt in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. From 1814-49, the castle was a state domain. Around 1890, the castle was expanded by its then owner. The fieldstone barn was built in 1892-93. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled by the communists.
After the reunification, the buildings were hardly used, so a community of interest was formed for their preservation. Since October 2000, part of the castle has been used by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Kreisverband Börde e. V. as a small home for children and young people.
The enclosed inner courtyard of the castle is accessible to visitors.
