Köniz Castle
The building was originally built in the early 11th century as a walled collegiate building for the Augustinian Canons.
From 1226, the castle was owned by the Teutonic Order until the dissolution of the commandery. Around 1261, a knight's house and the inner courtyard were built. In the 14th and 15th centuries, further buildings were added. In 1610, the main building was rebuilt in the post-Gothic style. In 1729, Bern acquired the castle and used it as a bailiwick until the French invasion in 1798.
In the 18th century, the entire complex was completely renovated. Since 1825, the west wing has served as a rectory, and the rest of the building has been a church community center since 2000.
