Königsegg Castle

Königsegg Castle is a castle in Mittelzell, a district of the municipality of Reichenau, in the Konstanz district of Baden-Württemberg. Today it is a school for speech therapy. The castle is located near the boat landing stage of Reichenau Island.

In the late Middle Ages, the current site was the seat of a ministerialis of Reichenau Abbey. In the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by the Imperial Counts of Königsegg. In the 17th century, the Augustinian Canons Regular of Beuron Monastery acquired the castle and had the property converted. Until the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, Königsegg Castle remained in the possession of the order. Afterwards, the building changed owners several times until it was acquired by the municipality of Reichenau in 1983 together with the park. It received its current Neo-Romanesque appearance in 1840.
