Köfering Castle

The first moated castle on the Pfatter was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Köfering. The Veste Köfering was destroyed on December 26, 1491, during the uprising of the Löwlerbund. The Counts of and zu Lerchenfeld have been the owners of the moated castle Köfering since 1569. The castle was damaged during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in its current form between 1680 and 1720. The castle complex consists of a central risalit, to which, however, only a north wing is attached; to the west is another wing with projecting corner risalits, and to the south is the single-story former stable building. The only access to the castle is via a stone bridge. The moat around the castle is still preserved. Worth seeing are the White Hall with inlaid parquet flooring and the chapel.
