Construction and Early Owners
The Klipphausen manor house was built around 1530 by the von Ziegler und Klipphausen family. The castle was built between 1528-30 by Hieronymus von Ziegler. The estate was elevated to a manor in 1530. Ownership changed in 1564 to Friedrich von Berbisdorf, in 1571 to Abraham Bock from Leipzig, in 1630 to the Ende family, in 1660 to the Koeppel family, in 1682 to Johann Friedrich Heige, in 1722 to the von Kleist family, in 1726 to Alexander von Miltitz of Scharfenberg, in 1730 to August von Ponickau, in 1762 to Maximilian Freiherr von Fletscher, in 1794 to Count Heinrich XXXVIII. Reuss and in 1816 to Prince Heinrich LXIII. Reuss. In 1945, Princesses Gertrud and Anna Marie Reuss were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Since 1997, the castle has served as the seat of the municipal administration.
