Klein Oschersleben Castle

Klein Oschersleben was first mentioned in a document in 1083 as Oskersievo, when Emperor Henry IV bequeathed the estate of a Thiedericus, who had died without heirs, to Halberstadt Cathedral. The name means legacy or inheritance of an Oscar. In 1381, several archiepiscopal feudal courts were mentioned in documents. In 1489, Hofmarschall Hans von Kotze received the manor as a male fief. It then remained in family possession for 400 years. In 1563, the village is mentioned as the possession of Kotze. A fire destroyed the village and castle in 1562. During the Thirty Years' War, Klein Oschersleben was partially burned down. After the death of the last administrator in Magdeburg in 1680, Klein Oschersleben, like the entire archdiocese, became part of the Electorate of Brandenburg. With the construction of the Magdeburg-Halberstadt railway line in 1842 and the establishment of a sugar factory, the development of agriculture in Klein Oschersleben experienced a significant boom. The first sugar factory stood on the manor in 1863, but was soon abandoned. From 1879, there was a larger sugar factory near the station, which produced until 1991.

The castle was rebuilt on the walls of the old castle at the end of the 19th century. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled by the communists. After this, a school, a nursery, and apartments were housed in the former castle.
