Kitzerstein Castle

Schloss Kitzerstein+
History+
Schloss Kitzerstein was built on the foundations of two farmsteads destroyed in the great city fire of 1517 and completed in 1521/22. The client was Knight Georg von Holbach. In the following centuries, ownership changed hands many times. The last renovation of the castle took place from 1927 to 1928, shortly thereafter the Saalfeld washing machine manufacturer Hans-Joachim Schaede moved in. After he was dispossessed in 1948, the Saalfeld Music School took over the building from 1955 and is still located there. Extensive renovation work took place between 1991 and 2004.
