Kirchberg Castle

Kirchberg was first mentioned in a document in 1233. Possession by the Walkenried Monastery near the town is documented in 1344. In 1438, Duke Otto II included the Lords of Oldershausen, alongside the Lords of Freden, in the enfeoffment of Kirchberg. Via the Lords of Uslar-Gleichen and Duke Heinrich I, the manor came into the possession of Heinrich II. In the 16th century, illegitimate children that Eva von Trott had with Heinrich II lived there. Since her sons remained without descendants, the estate fell to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in 1597. Via the Lords of Dorstadt, it came to Friedrich Ulrich, who gave it as a mortgage to the House of Campen. The mortgage was redeemed in 1849, so the estate has been connected with this house for centuries, and the current owner is Friedrich von Petersdorff-Campen.
