Kewenig Castle

To be privately owned

Kewenig Castle is a manor house in the Niedersgegen district of the municipality of Körperich in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Pfalz.

The castle, originally surrounded by moats, was first mentioned in a document in 1231 as Villa de Cheweningen. It was the seat of the Lords of Stein. The core is a moated castle with a square floor plan, corner towers, and a round-arch frieze from the 16th century. The house had fallen into disrepair by 1816 and was extended between 1890 and 1891.

A fire in a building adjacent to the castle on the night of August 11, 2013, caused property damage in the high six-figure range.
