Kammer Castle

Kammer Castle is a castle in Maishofen in Pinzgau. Polykarp is the first documented owner of the Kammer farm in 1466. He came from the then important Pinzgau family of Hunt. However, the repeatedly appearing Lords of Kammer probably never existed.

Between 1610 and 1614, Dietrich Khuen von Belasy, who also owned Prielau Castle, bought the two Kammerhof estates. He had a castle built there, which he expanded with a chapel in 1617. This was consecrated by Bishop Johann Paulus Ciurletti. In 1711, a large part of the buildings burned down. In 1722, the entire property between Zell am See and Saalfelden was sold by Max Preisgott Kuen to the Diocese of Chiemsee. The Bishops of Chiemsee rebuilt the castle in its present form and had it administered by their caretakers at Fischhorn Castle.

In 1785, Josef Neumayer became the tenant of the estate and finally acquired it in 1812 for 4,216 guilders. Since then, it has been owned by the Neumayr family and is run as a country inn.
