History+
The origins of Johannishus Castle date back to 1670, when Nils Skunck had the first building constructed. Over time, the estate changed hands several times. Initially, it passed to Admiral Baron Cornelius Anckarstjerna, before coming into the possession of Admiral General Count Hans Wachtmeister af Johannishus in 1684. His grandson, Count Fredrik Georg Hans Carl Wachtmeister, took over the estate in 1769 and commissioned the construction of the present castle in 1779, which stands to this day.
