Jessenitz Castle

Jessenitz Castle was built in 1887-89 by Charles Bessler in the Neo-Renaissance style. After Bessler's death in 1897, the property was inhabited by his daughter Lily and her husband Count von Baudissin until 1912. After World War I, the owners changed frequently. In 1934, the property came into the possession of the Reich Labour Service. After a renovation, the castle was used by RAD Department 5/63 "Admiral von Usedom" until 1945. During the GDR era, the house housed a vocational school for agricultural technology, a kindergarten, the VdGB machinery yard, and a boarding school for foreign apprentices from twelve nations. Since 1997, the castle has been in private ownership.
