Ittendorf Castle
Ittendorf Castle, today Ittendorf Palace, is a former hilltop castle and a later palace on an elevation of about 440 m above sea level in the present-day Ittendorf district of the Baden-Württemberg small town of Markdorf in the Bodensee district. The palace and St. Martin's Church are considered landmarks of Ittendorf.
The castle of the Schenken von Schmalegg, a Welf-Staufer ministerial family, presumably built in the 13th century, is attested around 1260. In 1302, the castle and the village came under the feudal dependency of Salem Abbey through a formal sale. The castle was destroyed in the German Peasants' War.
The palace was built by Einsiedeln Abbey on the castle site in the 17th century and expanded as a governor's residence from 1671 to 1677.
The palace, surrounded by a medieval curtain wall, is a three-story stepped-gable building that has been in changing private ownership since secularization.
Badische Bauernschule Association+
On November 22, 1931, the Badische Bauernschule (Baden Farmers' School) was founded as the "Verein Badische Bauernschule" (Badische Bauernschule Association) after a longer renovation phase in Ittendorf Palace through several association mergers under Lambert Schill and inaugurated in the presence of Minister Andreas Hermes. It was forcibly dissolved as early as 1933 and re-established in Schwerzen after the Second World War.
