Iggenhausen Caslte

Iggenhausen Castle is a listed secular building on Sylbacher Straße in Pottenhausen, a district of Lage in the Lippe district (North Rhine-Westphalia). The castle is surrounded by a historic landscaped park that extends to the banks of the Werre river.

The castle is one of the oldest manor houses in Lippe. It was first mentioned in a document around 1070 as a villication of Corvey Abbey. Other sources place the first mention of the place Iggenhausen (Yegenhausen) as early as the beginning of the 10th century, Hans Kiewning even in the 9th century during the time of King Arnulf of Carinthia. Parts of the ring wall and the moat, which was drained in 1860, are still preserved in the southwest from the medieval motte-and-bailey castle.

The manor house is an elongated plastered building with ashlar articulation in classicist-influenced, neo-Gothic forms. It was built from 1856 to 1865 under the direction of Ferdinand Ludwig August Merckel. The main risalit is equipped with a stone loggia and a stepped gable and adorned with corner edgings and battlements. The old manor house is integrated as a side wing on the courtyard side. The plastered symmetrical half-timbered building stands on a high plinth floor. On the courtyard side there is a sandstone portal, dated 1816, showing the coat of arms of the von Blomberg family. The courtyard is bordered at the rear by the so-called crooked house. This is a single-story half-timbered building from the 18th/19th century. The core dates from an earlier period. The floor plan is broken several times, following the medieval ring wall. A greenhouse as an iron construction was added towards the park around 1860.

The estate is now owned by the von Eckardstein family.
