Hueb Castle
Hueb Castle is located in the Hub district of the municipality of Mettmach in the Innviertel region of Upper Austria.
A seat at Hueb is documented in 1485, when the "noble and steadfast Laczarus Ellrechinger zu Heb" documented and sealed. From the Ellrechingers, the seat passed to the Dachsbergers. Around 1517, a Hans von Dachsberg is mentioned. The castle was built by Rudolph von Dachsberg (Taxberg) zu Aspach on a hill in the Mettmach floodplains.
Through the marriage of Anna Juliane von Dachsperg, married Baroness von Franking and remarried Wartenberg, the property came into the possession of the Counts of Wartenberg. With Ferdinand Lorenz Graf von Wartenberg, this lineage died out on July 3, 1654. The heirs of the Wartenbergers were the Frankingers. Hueb remained in the possession of the Counts of Franking until 1829. From them, it passed to the Handel family. In 1853, Ernst von Handel-Manzetti took over the property. His successor in 1920 was the writer Anton Schott (1988-1945). Since 1930, Hueb has been owned by Hermine Bruckbauer, and from 1959 by her daughter Marie.
Hueb Castle Today+
Around 1960, the castle was still described as "freshly renovated" or as a "charming little castle". Today, this is no longer the case; the castle has fallen into disrepair, the castle courtyard is overgrown, and the former park is covered with shrubs.
The castle itself is three-story and has a hipped roof with a truncated gable; the roof construction is significantly altered compared to the view from 1721 with its double hipped roof, and the corner turrets have disappeared. A chapel is built into the castle. In the chapel, a plaque is said to be affixed with the following names: Handel auf Hueb und Hagenau 1776-1847, J. v. Preen 1783-1806, L. Franz von Handel 1855, A. Fr. Mazzetti von Roccamova 1813-1845, C, Benvenutti von Chiusole 1816-1847. Above the entrance to the castle is the year 1610; to the left is the coat of arms of the Dachsbergers, to the right the coat of arms of a Sabina Dachsberg, née Herzham. Between the castle and the farm building, there is a connecting wall that originally belonged to the former gatehouse. Above the gate is a formerly open battlement from the castle to an arbor of the farm building. This is two-story and also has a hipped roof with a truncated gable.
