Hubertushöhe Castle (Storkow)

Built in the style of a castle from 1899–1900 for the Privy Councillor of Commerce Georg Büxenstein as a representative country house or hunting lodge, including outbuildings, the structure combines Neo-Gothic forms with the Swiss style. The estate was built as a plastered building according to designs by architects M. Jacob and G. Roensch in a surrounding landscape park. The residential house and the service wing with coach houses face each other around an inner courtyard open to the lake. The main house features a tower with an octagonal floor plan under a spire. The artistic craftsmanship of the house is guided by hunting motifs from the turn of the century by renowned artists. The decorative and pleasing paintings inside are by Julius Bodenstein, the animal paintings by Karl Wagner, and the carvings consisting of animal and hunting motifs in the hall and dining room are by the sculptor Professor Gotthold Riegelmann.

The builder of the estate sold it in 1916.

From 1970 to 1989, Hubertushöhe was used under the name Landhaus Dolgen as a training and recreation home for the Council of Ministers of the GDR.

After 1990, the property was privatized by the Treuhandanstalt and, following renovation in 1998, has been operated as a luxury hotel with 23 suites and rooms and a restaurant under the name Schloss Hubertushöhe.

In 2002, a meeting took place here between the then Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and the then-acting President of France, Jacques Chirac.

On February 14, 2012, insolvency proceedings were opened against the operator, Hotel Schloss Hubertushöhe GmbH, at the District Court of Frankfurt (Oder) due to insolvency and over-indebtedness. The hotel and restaurant are closed until further notice.

The hotel is located about 68 km southeast of Berlin, not far from Federal Highway 246 between Storkow and Beeskow. It has the nearby Hubertushöhe stop on the Königs Wusterhausen–Grunow railway line.

Lake Dolgensee is part of the Storkow Canal and the Dahme waterway, so the marina belonging to the Hubertushöhe hunting lodge has a connection both to Berlin and, via the lock in Wendisch Rietz, to Lake Scharmützelsee.
