Hornstein Castle
Hornstein Castle stands on a wooded slope north of Krumpendorf. Ulrich Hornsteiner built the castle in the 15th century. Around the middle of the 18th century, the castle was owned by the Counts of Ursenböck. In 1757, they received a license for mass in the castle chapel from the Bishop of Lavant, Johann Baptist von Thurn und Taxis. In 1865, Otto Daublesky Freiherr von Sterneck acquired the castle. Today, the property is privately owned. In the mid-19th century, Markus Pernhart drew the castle as part of his castle cycle.
Description+
The castle is a small, three-axis, cubic building with a hip roof. In the northeast and southwest corners are two diagonally opposite, round corner towers with flat conical roofs. A later extension stands on the north side. Above the rusticated round arch portal, the double coat of arms of Sterneck-Dickmann was affixed around 1860. On the wall at the courtyard entrance is a damaged, baroque double coat of arms with a putto.
