Hornstaad Castle

Hornstaad Castle is a former residence of the canons of Öhningen Monastery and is located in Horn, a district of Gaienhofen, directly on Lake Constance at the tip of the Höri peninsula.

The predecessor building is not confirmed; possibly a small castle stood here.

The two-story half-timbered building with a stair tower, which still exists today, was built around 1640. The coat of arms on the tower shows, from bottom to top, the coats of arms of Sürgenstein, Roth von Schreckenstein, von Liebenfels, von Coppenhagen, and von Stuben. Engelbert von Syrgenstein's father is mentioned as the chief bailiff of Gaienhofen. The owners of the Renaissance building were the von Liebenfels, and in the 18th century, the von Koppenhagen are mentioned as owners.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a restaurant was established, and today it is a popular excursion destination.
