Holzheim Castle
Holzheim Castle, also known as Painherrnhof, is located in the Holzheim district of the municipality of Leonding in the Linz-Land district (Holzheim, Peinherr Weg 2).
Holzheim was first mentioned in a document in 1075. The Lords of Holzheim were owners until 1376, followed by the Aczpeckh until 1481; subsequently, the castle came into the possession of the Lordship of Steyregg. The name Painherrnhof goes back to the free seat of the brothers Georg and Wolf Painherr. They were elevated to the nobility by Emperor Ferdinand III in 1648 for services rendered. The last of the Painherrn was Wolf Painherr's son in 1684. In 1726, the old castle burned down and a new baroque castle building was erected.

The Painherrnhof is a three-story building. The granite portal, which bears the year 1726, is remarkable. Above the portal, two angels hold an image of Mary with the infant Jesus, both crowned. From the portal, one enters an inner courtyard through a barrel vault, which has arcades on one side, supported by massive granite pillars. The windows on the left and right of the outer facade are secured with wrought-iron grilles. The different designs of the stucco above the windows are noteworthy. The side walls are structured by white fascias.
The castle now serves residential purposes. Unsightly additions disfigure the castle. The structural condition is not good, individual renovations have been carried out.
