Hohenthann Castle

Hohenthann Castle is a castle in Hohenthann in the district of Landshut. Hohenthann was first mentioned in a document in 1125 (cf. Monumenta Augensia). The mentioned local noble family of Hohenthann resided there until 1407. The Hofmark and the castle later belonged to the Counts of Deyring, who were also holders of the Hohenthann local court from the mid-17th century until 1818. The old castle complex burned down in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession, along with several houses, and was rebuilt in the Rococo style in the second half of the 18th century. In 1818, the Hofmark was acquired by Martin von Melzl. In 1929, the Rauchenecker family, owners of the Hohenthann Castle Brewery founded in 1864, acquired the manor, which was in very poor condition. However, extensive renovation measures were subsequently carried out, so that the castle is now in good condition.
