Hötzing Castle

Hetzinger Castle, a magnificent example of Baroque architecture, was erected in 1762 by the Lords of Hetzing upon the foundations of a predecessor building. This earlier structure, a medieval fortress, had guarded the strategically important river crossing for centuries. Archaeological findings suggest that the site has been continuously settled since Roman times, highlighting its enduring significance.

The current castle, designed by the renowned architect Johann Michael Fischer, showcases the opulence and artistic sophistication of the Baroque era. Its symmetrical facade, adorned with intricate stucco work and allegorical sculptures, immediately captivates the observer. Inside, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking grand staircase, leading to a series of sumptuously decorated state rooms.

The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall, with its soaring ceilings and magnificent frescoes by Cosmas Damian Asam, depicts scenes from classical mythology and the history of the Hetzing family. The Chapel of St. Michael
