Herrngiersdorf Castle
Herrngiersdorf Castle is a former Hofmark in Herrngiersdorf in the Hallertau region of Bavaria. The castle and its brewery were first mentioned in a document in 1131. The owners of the Hofmark and the castle from 1458-1480 were the Lords Nothaft von Podenstein, and from 1654 to 1822 the Barons von Guggemos. In 1709, the current castle was rebuilt by Albrecht von Guggenmos in place of the old moated castle. From 1822-23, the castle was owned by Count Maximilian von Montgel, and from 1823-75 by the Lords von Lottner. From 1875-99, it belonged to Jakob Mühlbauer. Since 1899, it has been owned by the Pausinger family, originally from Landshut. In 1976, the castle was restored.
The Herrngiersdorf Castle Brewery, which calls itself the oldest private brewery in the world, has been managed by Paul Pausinger VI since 1995.
