Helmsdorf Castle

The coat of arms on the side portal of the castle indicates its construction as an outwork in 1597. The property is located west of Stolpen. Helmsdorf Castle was a knight's estate and long belonged to the Abbot of Meissen. The castle was reconstructed 100 years ago on behalf of the landlord Schmieder by the Dresden architect Lassow and his son-in-law Max Hans Kühne. In 1937, it was converted into a master school for the baking trade. Since then, the castle served as a recreation home for master bakers. After World War II, it served as a holiday and training home for the Chamber of Crafts. Today, the castle is lovingly restored with private funds and serves as a center for events, weddings, and similar occasions.
