Heinsheim Castle

Heinsheim Castle is an 18th-century castle in Heinsheim, a district of Bad Rappenau in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg.

The original manor house in Heinsheim is Ehrenberg Castle, located outside the village, which was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. At the same time, the local lordship also changed, as the Lords of Ehrenberg died out in the male line in 1647. The subsequent local lords moved their residence into the village and probably built a moated castle there, in whose place around 1725 the Barons of Racknitz, who came from Styria and had by then risen to local lords, began construction of the present castle (also: Lower Castle). In 1805, the Racknitz family also acquired Ehrenberg Castle and half of the Zimmerhof from the Landgrave of Hesse. From 1810, the castle was extended by Carl Freiherr von Racknitz (1785-1868) with a park-like garden and in the 20th century, Philipp von Racknitz developed it into a hotel business. The outbuildings are used for various residential and commercial purposes. The castle complex also includes a baroque castle chapel from 1706, which is now predominantly used for wedding services.
