Heinrichsruh Castle

The construction of the Heinrichsruher Palace with all its outbuildings took place in 1808. Construction began in 1806 after Heinrich XLII was elevated to the rank of prince. The palace, in the style of a classical Italian villa, served residential purposes and was used by the Schleiz princely family as a regular summer residence. After the Schleiz castle fire in 1837, the palace served as a residence for a time.

The palace was simply furnished but had a generous room layout. It is a two-story building made of rubble masonry. A central section spans between two side wings, fronted on both sides by a portico with four Tuscan columns and a strong entablature above. Unfortunately, during the conversion into apartments in the "reconstruction" of 1985, the interior of the house was destroyed, the portico facing east and the southern annex were removed, as was the fountain of the meadow plan. The wooden water pipe from Wolfsgalgen to the palace was later replaced by a 70-meter-deep well on the side of the stable. In the rear building, which was equipped with a tower bay and a tower clock, service apartments and guest rooms were set up; in the basement, there was a stable for horses and a carriage park. Originally, the tower was crenellated, thus built as an observation tower.
