Hauzendorf Castle

The castle is first mentioned in 1149 as being in the possession of Knight Rudiger von Hauzendorf. In the 18th century, the castle was expanded. In 1772, the castle was destroyed by a fire. In 1784-85, the reconstruction took place with a brewery and tavern by the Schmidt family. In 1923, Jäger Bartl established a so-called agricultural bonded distillery in the castle. In the same year, Ignaz and Katharina Mehler from Tirschenreuth acquired the dilapidated property with the agricultural land. Around 1950, the castle was renovated (including the reconstruction of the bell tower, roofing of the inner courtyard, today's farm shop). In 1975, the monument-appropriate renovation took place, largely through the owners' own efforts.
