Haunscher Hof Castle

The Haunsche Hof is a listed building in Bad Salzungen in the Wartburg district in Thuringia.

The building was constructed as a two-story structure with a half-hipped roof. Characteristic features are the round portal and the three-story stair tower with a coat of arms from the year 1624.

Built around 1450, the Haunsche Hof is one of the oldest buildings in Bad Salzungen's city center. In 1487, the von Haun family received the "Henneberger Hof" from Count Friedrich von Henneberg, from which the current name is derived.

In 1624, the complex was rebuilt in Renaissance style. In 1810, the house passed into bourgeois ownership and served, among other things, as a spa guesthouse for a time.

After a complete restoration starting in 1970, the city and district library moved into the building in 1972. In 1974, an elaborate redesign took place in the basement, creating a wine bar. In 1996, the library moved out, and in 2001, the Bad Salzunger Cultural Association moved in.

After extensive renovation from 2007 to 2010, the Haunsche Hof now houses a cafe, the registry office of the city of Bad Salzungen, as well as club and exhibition rooms of the local cultural association.
