Castle Harzgerode
Harzgerode Castle is mentioned for the first time in 1384. From 1398 to 1535, the Counts of Stolberg were predominantly the feudal lords of the castle and town. Afterwards, Harzgerode became the administrative center for the Princes of Anhalt for their possessions in the Harz region. Prince Georg III of Anhalt had the castle complex rebuilt between 1549 and 1552.
From 1635-1709, the castle was the residence of the Harzgerode line of the Anhalt princely house. The names of the last princely family can be found in the immediate vicinity. For example, in the "Wilhelmshof" forestry, in the former "Albertine" mine, and in "Augustenstrasse".
Over time, various uses took place, and the castle is now a cultural center.
