Haig Castle
Geschichte+
A castle is first mentioned in the 14th century as being owned by the Lords of Schaumberg, who were enfeoffed by the Bishop of Bamberg as protection against the Thuringians. The castle was surrounded by a moat and connected to the mainland by a drawbridge.
In 1631, a Kronach mob plundered the village and castle. The indebted estate was bought in 1727 by Cathedral Dean Johann Veit von Würtzburg, who built the present castle in 1731.
