Hagenegg Castle

Hagenegg Castle is located in the middle of an English park landscape. The name of the castle refers to the "von Hagen" family, who continuously held princely offices in Kappel in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1643, the building came into the possession of Johann Andreas von Rosenberg. Subsequently, ownership changed several times until the Counts Thurn-Valsassina finally acquired the castle in 1887.

The oldest part of the building complex dates back to a structure mentioned in 1316. The dominant part of the complex is a two-story, seven-axis building from the second half of the 17th century. The east facade is flanked by two corner towers, which are covered by an onion dome. The baroque wing is connected to the 15th/16th-century building by side wings to the west. The west wing contains a 16th-century wooden coffered ceiling, while the east wing has two rooms with baroque stucco ceilings (around 1680) and simple 18th-century stucco.

The Castle Chapel of Saint Joseph is located in the southwest corner of the building. The altarpiece from the end of the 17th century depicts the Holy Family. The chapel also contains a late Gothic figure of Saint Leonard from the mid-15th century.
